Cervical-Levator scapulae self-stretch

You are here:
  1. Patient sitting with hand on side to be treated holding the chair.
  2. Patient leans trunk away for stretch.
  3. Patient flexes, side bends, and rotates the head away and supports the head position with the other hand pulling the head slightly more into the flexion/sidebending/rotation.
  4. The stretch can be enhanced by a contraction of the lower trapezius muscle on the same side.

The stretch is held for 10-15 seconds and repeated three to five times with increasing side bending away each time.
