Evaluates gluteus medius

  1. Begin with the patient standing in front of you in normal stance, observe PSIS dimples and pelvic height
  2. Ask patient to raise one leg and observe dimples/pelvis
  3. A drop in height on the side of the lifted leg indicates a positive test for a weak gluteus medius of the stance leg (opposite leg) since the muscle is not strong enough to support the pelvis when the opposite leg is lifted.
