Evaluates gluteus medius
- Begin with the patient standing in front of you in normal stance, observe PSIS dimples and pelvic height
- Ask patient to raise one leg and observe dimples/pelvis
- A drop in height on the side of the lifted leg indicates a positive test for a weak gluteus medius of the stance leg (opposite leg) since the muscle is not strong enough to support the pelvis when the opposite leg is lifted.
