Steps for Treatment:

  1. Patient in supine position, physician standing on side of rotational component
    • For this example, the rotational component is L, so physician is on L side
  2. Physician to place hand under patient to monitor the transverse process of the rotated vertebra
  3. Physician uses other hand to control the leg of the patient
    • For this example, physician R hand is monitoring the dysfunctional segment, while physician L hand is manipulating patient’s leg
  4. Physician will flex the patient’s leg at the hip and knee to treat the dysfunctional segment
    • The degree of flexion at the knee and hip will vary depending on which segment is dysfunctional, the goal is to add the hip/knee flexion until motion/softening is felt at the dysfunctional segment
  5. While maintaining the hip/knee flexion, physician will then ABduct the patient’s leg
  6. While maintaining the treatment position found via steps 4 & 5, the physician will then use their chest to compress down to the dysfunctional segment until softening is felt at the monitoring hand
  7. Physician is to maintain the compression, ADduct patient leg across midline while also adding internal rotation, then end with pulling leg into extension wile crossing midline
  8. As always, REASSESS
