Diagnosis:
- Patient is in supine with physician behind the patient
- Physician places their fingers bilaterally on the clavicular heads
- Ask the patient to shrug their shoulders and assess for caudad movement/abduction of the medial clavicle for symmetry. The clavicle that has less movement is the adducted clavicle
Steps for Treatment:
- Patient is in supine with physician behind the patient
- Physician places their fingers on the proximal clavicular head, their opposite hand should hold the patient’s ipsilateral wrist
- Position the patient so that their shoulder is extended off the table and internally rotated
- Patient is asked to raise their arm against resistance, 3-5 seconds
- Patient then told to relax for atleast 2 seconds
- Engage the new barrier and repeat at least 3 times
- Passive stretch
- Return to neutral
- Reassess
