Diagnosis:

  1. Patient is in supine with physician behind the patient
  2. Physician places their fingers bilaterally on the clavicular heads
  3. Ask the patient to shrug their shoulders and assess for caudad movement/abduction of the medial clavicle for symmetry. The clavicle that has less movement is the adducted clavicle

Steps for Treatment:

  1. Patient is in supine with physician behind the patient
  2. Physician places their fingers on the proximal clavicular head, their opposite hand should hold the patient’s ipsilateral wrist
  3. Position the patient so that their shoulder is extended off the table and internally rotated
  4. Patient is asked to raise their arm against resistance, 3-5 seconds
  5. Patient then told to relax for atleast 2 seconds 
  6. Engage the new barrier and repeat at least 3 times
  7. Passive stretch
  8. Return to neutral
  9. Reassess
